The Atelier Elvira of August Endell is one of the best examples of German modernism. The illustrations of the facade and interior of the building, widely published in magazines of the time reveal an asymmetrical design, ill-conceived if not horrible, insecure and arbitrary floating on the facade, some critics have associated with a history rocaille . For most, the problem was the lack of direct relationship between the fantastic ornaments and a conventional building. Of the façade highlight the dragon overflying the study, the facade was painted in green, while the reliefs were painted in purple. Subsequent Endell works in modern language, and plan for the auditorium of the Teatro Buntes Berlin (1901), were much more consistent, but his name will always be linked negatively to her first modernist design Atelier Elvira.
