Construction	the Flatiron Building was the beginning of a race to reach the sky. We are therefore faced with one of the first candidates to conquer the sky: the Metropolitan Life building. The building was built between 1907 and 1909, and was a whim of the director of the company, in an act of megalomania, wanted to build an impressive headquarters, which remain for posterity. And he did, since the building was the tallest in the world between 1909 and 1913. The tower was not made with intent to Deco, but under neo-Renaissance influences, some see a parallel with the tower the Plaza San Marco in Venice. El edificio inicialmente poseía una rica decoración, sin embargo su fachada fue limpiada en una reforma de 1960. Dos son los elementos más característicos, primero sus relojes, con reminiscencias Art Nouveau; segundo su remate en forma de pirámide, bajo este se sitúa una logia con cinco arcos de medio punto, el edificio es coronado por un lucernario neorrenacentista. Como curiosidad sus ascensores fueron durante años los más rápidos del mundo, realizando el recorrido desde la base a la última planta en sólo 60 segundos.
